Why aren't some players avaliable?

I'm new to Daily Joust so I don't know the exact rules, but why aren't players from the Pirates and Rockies available for today's games? I was looking to start one from each team and realized it's like their games don't exist.
If there are a lot of games that day, it seems they split some of the early games up and get them underway in a contest, and have a separate contest later for the late games. In which case you'll have had the chance to use those players in either the early or late contest. I could be wrong, but that's my theory.
